CPAP Titration Sleep Study

CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure and is the most effective and widely used method of treating sleep related breathing disorders such as sleep apnea.

As with the other sleep studies your technician will discuss the procedure with you so that you feel prepared and at ease before the start of the study. They will then fit you for the CPAP mask of your preference and attach sensors that will collect the physiological data needed for the sleep study.

While you are asleep, the CPAP system gently delivers pressurized air into your airway through the specially designed mask which fits over your nose or mouth. CPAP creates enough pressure to keep your airway open, eliminating sleep apnea.

The CPAP system does not breathe for you, rather it acts as a ‘splint’ for the airway, keeping it open when your throat muscles relax during sleep.

The focus of the CPAP titration is to treat your sleep disordered breathing with the optimum CPAP pressure. Your technician will adjust the pressure throughout the night as you peacefully sleep.

After the study, a detailed report will be sent to your primary care physician which will include further treatment recommendations.
